Frequently Asked Questions - Counselling
What is my approach to counselling?
My approach is both client-focused and pluralistic, which means I tailor each session to your unique needs and goals. I draw from various therapeutic methods, including pluralistic counselling, therapeutic coaching, NLP, and visualisation techniques, to help you find balance, resilience, and clarity. Together, we explore the impact of your thoughts and feelings on life events and work toward meaningful, positive change.

What issues can I help you with?
I specialise in supporting clients with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, motivation, and relationship challenges. My approach can also help with unhelpful habits, fears or phobias, and general life difficulties. Whatever you're facing, we’ll work together to find a path forward that feels right for you.

How does a typical counselling session work?
In our first session, we’ll discuss your needs and establish goals using the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound). Each session builds on the last, with time to discuss progress, any emerging challenges, and tools or techniques to support your journey. We’ll work in a warm, safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore freely.

What is a “pluralistic” approach, and how does it work?
A pluralistic approach involves integrating different methods and techniques to suit your personal needs. I use pluralistic psychotherapy, NLP, visualisation, and therapeutic coaching to address the challenges you bring. This approach allows us to adjust and evolve our work as you progress, making each session relevant to your journey.

How many sessions will you need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your needs and goals. During the initial consultation, we’ll establish a treatment plan and set an initial number of sessions. We’ll regularly review your progress and adjust the plan as needed to ensure you’re getting the support you need.

How do I help clients who feel “stuck” or are struggling to make changes?
When clients feel “stuck,” I guide them through understanding the connection between their thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and results. We work together to identify any limiting patterns, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and explore alternative perspectives. This process empowers you to make intentional choices that support your goals.

What can you expect to gain from counselling?
Counselling can help you increase self-awareness, resilience, and clarity about your goals and values. You’ll learn tools to manage your thoughts, reduce stress, and make meaningful choices aligned with your well-being. Ultimately, you’ll feel more empowered to create positive change in your life.

What qualifications do I hold?
I’m a qualified Psychotherapist, Certified Hypnotherapist, and Accredited Life Coach. With 17 years of experience in a high-stress City environment and several years volunteering with West Kent Mind, I bring both professional expertise and personal insight to support your well-being.

Where do sessions take place?
I offer sessions both in person in Sevenoaks and online, so you can choose what feels most comfortable for you. This flexibility allows us to work together in a way that best supports your needs.

How can you get started?
I offer a free initial 15-minute phone consultation to help us connect and understand how I can best support you. From there, we’ll schedule a face-to-face session, where we’ll go through paperwork, the client contracting form, terms and conditions, and define your goals and plan for our work together.
